Step 1 readers increase children's confidence in reading

I purchased these books for my 5-year-old daughter who is beginning to read on her own and these Step Into Reading books are excellent as they have a high-interest factor that motivates her to read. The stories are also wonderfully illustrated in full color. The story here is of a young girl who witnesses a snowball rolling down a hill, picking up almost everything in its path along the way! The story is fun and hilarious and had my daughter laughing as she read! These Step 1 series are recommended for preschool-K - the stories are in large type and the vocabulary is easy. The stories are also in a rhyming format which makes them easy and fun to read, e.g. "I saw a snowball on a hill. It rolled along and picked up Bill!" The full color pictures also provide contextual clues as to the word being used in the text. These early readers have raised my daughter's confidence level in reading, and she is doing so well that I'm purchasing the Step Two books (Preschool-Grade 1). I use these books in conjunction with sight words to reinforce her recognition of common vocabulary.
Very Funny!

This is a great little book for kids learning to read. The plot is hilarious and the colorful pictures make kids (and adults) giggle. The rhyme is fun and the repetition helps kids learn the longer more challenging words. As a mom, I enjoy it and don't mind hearing my kids read it over and over. I wish all readers were as clever as this one!
Great fun for learning to read

Our kindergartner enjoyed this book as he learned to read. Some of the words were challenging, but the lively illustrations and silly plot kept him entertained. And as a parent, it kept me entertained too, even at a five-year-old's reading pace. The illustrations are clever and full of little, subtle details that you wouldn't expect during the first reading so there are always new things to discover. A great one to pick up for a child learning to read.

This book is great. The words rhyme as you read along which makes it fun to read for young children. The pictures are bright and colorful and go along with the words on each page. The pictures make youngsters laugh. My 3-year old son memorized this book in 2 readings and now thinks he can read. Now he asks for new books to read all the time. I highly recommend this book for anyone who wants to get their children excited about reading.
