The Snow Bear

This is a great story about a boy who has faith in his best friend the snow bear. They journey out onto the ice and a blizzard comes .Eventually the snow bear finds the shelter she brought her cubs up in.She catches seals and fish for her and Bruun to eat.He goes back to where he came from and becomes a hunter. He's is one of the best and still hunts in the old ways using a harpoon not a gun.Bruun sees the snow bear again when she is on the verge of dying and stays with her until she was just a white lump in the snow.I lked this book and I think it should be short listed. At school I am supposed to do a review on this eye-catching book.

The Snow Bear

My second grader "got it." My seven-year-old son, like most boys his age, isn't particularly fond of reading, and struggles along, sounding out the words during our bedtime readings. Many a night he breaks down and cries, partly because he's tired, but mostly because reading is such a chore. Often, as I tuck him in, I wonder just how much he comprehended, given the slow pace of his mech-an-i-cal sound-ing out. Last night was different, though. He didn't struggle too much with the words, but right near the end he paused, which usually means he's having a hard time deciphering a word. I sat up to look at the the page, and in my peripheral vision noticed a great, big tear rolling down his cheek. Hoping my hunch wasn't wrong, I asked, "How come you're crying?" "Because," he choked the words out, "it's sad!" So fanciful though the book may be, its poignant lesson runs very much along the lines of the children's classic "Love You Forever."
