I owe all of my knowledge about snakes to this very book.

if it wren't for this book, I wouldn't know a thing about snakes, and reptiles in general. Lenny is a good writer and I like his guide on the 10 best and the 10 worst snakes(I don't care if an annaconda for sale is the nicest snake alive, you don't sell annacondas!). I agree with him when he says that more breeding should be done on the rare eastern indigo snake and green tree python, and less on the burmese python and boa constrictor(Even though I own a boa constrictor). It's nice that he wrote a few examples fo his own snakes escaping as well as what to do if your snake escapes(Even though I haven't had a snake escape yet). If he hadn't listed why dead rats are better for your snake to eat than live rats, my snakes would probably be covered in stiches. I highly reccomed this book to anyone who is interested in becoming a herper. It has everything you'll ever need to know about snakes, and it can be found at any petstore.
My son loves this book!

My seven year old son is getting a snake for his birthday. We borrowed this book from a friend. He is reading it cover to cover. It is providing both of us with all the practical info on what to get (snake and accessories) and how to care for your pet snake. An indispensible guide for a soon-to-be snake owner.
Great Book for Beginning Herpers

This book is a grreat book if you are interested in getting a snake, but don't know how to start. It tells you the best beginner snakes, the worst ones, snake do's and don'ts, and all the infromation a new herper would need. Although not the best book for experienced herpers, it can still be used as a reference for most. This is the best book I've read for selecting your snake and getting started on the care and maintenance.
