Charming woodland story with gorgeous illustrations
Published by Thriftbooks.com User , 15 years ago
My preschooler loves animal stories, especially if the animals concerned are furry and adorable. In "The Sleepy Dormouse", a young dormouse sleeps on, curled up in his nest, oblivious to everything else. One day, a weasel called Scraggly Sam comes by and takes the dormouse with him, intending to eat him for supper. Finding the dormouse rather undernourished, Sam proceeds to fatten him up under a flowerpot. Fortunately for the naive dormouse, a group of kind-hearted harvest mice come along to rescue him. The story is charming, but what truly makes this book a perfect read-aloud is the beautiful manner in which it is illustrated - gorgeous full-color illustrations of the woodland creatures add a lot of liveliness to the text, and make this an engaging story. Sadly it is out of print, but I intend getting a used copy to add to our ever expanding home library of children's books!
