Explains, in rhymed text and illustrations, what tails are and aren't, what they can and can't do, and where they do and don't grow. This description may be from another edition of this product.
I'm really surprised to find out that this book is out of print. First of all, because Marc Brown (of "Arthur" fame) is so popular, and second because this book is pretty cute. Sponsored by Parents Magazine (its a Parents Magazine READ ALOUD Original), "The Silly Tail Book" *is* a good read-aloud that has lots to look at and talk about. All kinds of critters with all kinds of tails inhabit its pages. Animals include dinosaurs, dogs, kangaroo, hippos, beaver, armadillo, turkey, frogs, moose, rabbits, turtle, ducks, cat, monkey, elephants, pigs, dogs, zebra, squirrel, lion, peacock, whale, seal, camel, giraffe, horse, alligator, and mouse. In addition to having lots to look at and talk about, there is good and catchy rhyme. An example of text follows: If you grow a tail, You grow only one. But growing more tails Could be much more fun! Tails go fast And tails go slow. A tail will follow Wherever you go. Kangaroos use them to jump up high. Cows use them to swat a fly. Finally, there is a section at the end for Grown-ups which suggests various ways to approach the book. Major themes, Step-by-step Ideas for Reading and Talking, Games for Learning, and About the Author/Artist. Four stars. A Marc Brown book for younger kids. There is lots of fun and lots to be learned and discussed. Probably best for the four and under crowd. At these prices a good deal.
