The Shipbuilders Wife is a captivating historical romance novel by popular author, Jennifer Moore set during the time of the War of 1812 between the Americans and the British.
Beautiful and confident Lydia is from a privileged family, and accustomed to getting what she wants. She secured the proposal of a young wealthy plantation owner, and is preparing to marry him when the British attack their river plantation, and Lydia is badly injured by falling window glass.
Lydia had met tall, intimidating Mr. Jakob Steele of Steele Shipyard at their midsummer garden party a month before. After the attack, Jakob Steele learns that Lydia’s fiancé has broken their engagement due to Lydia’s injury; he straightaway asks for Lydia’s hand, and they are married shortly after.
Jakob struggles with trust issues, and begins to suspect Lydia of being a spy when information leaks out that only a few people knew. Lydia struggles with her scar, and is fearful of what people may think, and is afraid Jakob will not be able love her because of it.
The story follows Jakob and Lydia through an attack on Washington, Lydia discovering who the real spy is, and Jakob being badly injured.
“The truth is, Lydia, I married you because I thought you needed me, but over the past months, I’ve come to see it is I who needs you.”
