Good read aloud book, if it's the same as the 1984 edition, it's not a read alone book

Our copy of Sheriff of Rottenshot (Copyright, 1983, Greenwillow Books, NY), also illustrated by Victoria Chess, is a wonderful collection of Jack Prelutsky's macabre poems that I read to my son to expand his vocabulary. It's his favorite poetry. My child does not like most books, even good children's poets, so we are harsh critics. Our second favorite poetry collection by this author (or any other) is "New Kid on the Block" which is not all macabre. Not all his books have seemed worth bringing home from the library, but these two are really fun. I'm confused that this 1984 paperback edition published by Mulberry "Read Alone" books is called "read alone." Is it the same collection? Ours is not a "read alone" book, it's a "read aloud" book. Over half of the poems in our Sheriff of Rottenshot poetry collection are too difficult for my child to read by himself, unless he's half-memorized it. It introduces the child to words he's never heard before, like croquettes, twine, spectors, and poltergeist. The Sheriff of Rottenshot is the name of a poem which might be easy enough for a child to read alone., which makes me wonder if it's the identical collection of poems.

Very Funny!

My mom used to read this book of poems to us when we were children, and we always loved it! Sadie Snatt was my personal favorite. I ordered four of these books- one for my children, and one each for my sisters and my mom. It's really funny and the poems made my 4 year old son laugh! (Warning- be selective about reading to young children)Buy it!!

Dr. Seuss's evil twin

I love this book. I read it as a child and have adored it ever since. People have described me as "macabre" and "twisted" with a cynical sense of humor but I don't think that's the case here. This book is witty and hysterical. Grown-ups deserve to have "childish fun" without actually having to read children's books. While a child certainly could read this book, adults can appreciate it even more! All you adults who want to have fun, Read this book! It is a laugh RIOT!
