The Shadow. Jade Dragon & House of Ghosts by Walter Gibson. Crime Club Hardback, 1981. 205 pages. This description may be from another edition of this product.
This wonderful book is actually a collection of two of Walter Brown Gibson's (1897-1985) great Shadow novels, and begins with an introduction by Gibson himself. The two stories are gems in and of themselves, but together they form a great collection. My father used to talk about listening to The Shadow on the radio when he was a kid, and I was thrilled to be able to hear it myself. Now, after some serious searching, I have been able to read some original Shadow pulp novels. Written when Walter Gibson was at his height, these stories are fascinating and well written. If you are a fan of The Shadow, then you should read this book. I give it two thumbs up, WAY up! The first story is The Jade Dragon, which was first published in 1942. When a beautiful woman buys a carved jade dragon from a shop in San Francisco's Chinatown, she soon finds herself being stalked by a seemingly supernatural murderer. But, there's someone else right behind her, the only person who can unravel the mystery and stop the evil strangler - The Shadow! In the second story, The House of Ghosts, first published 1943, the Shadow traces an embezzler to a small town, where he seems to disappear without a trace. It turns out a local mansion is being visited by the supernatural - it is being stalked by at least one ghost. Is there a connection? The Shadow knows! If you can get this book, then do so. It's great!
