From the back cover: "The secret of the Seren. "A mysterious mining disaster hurtles two unlikely lovers into a nightmare of intrigue and terror. Kalissae Boristh-Major, Manager of the protein-mining colony Euphrates, and Bedford Odigal, Free Syndic for the Federation, must battle sabotage and corruption as they race to solve an ancient mystery--the secret that links Bedford's alien symbiont Issykul to the legendary extraterrestrial race known as the Seren. If they fail, thousands of lives could be lost--and perhaps the future of all humanity." I read this book because I loved another of Warren Norwood's books, "Time Police." The title initially turned me off (because I didn't know what it meant, and I'm still not completely sure!), but I read it anyway, and really enjoyed it. One of my favorite elements in "The Seren Cenacles" is the handling of Bedford's relationship with his symbiont, and the relationship (almost a love triangle) that develops between them and Kalissae. The characterization is great, the plot is good, and the villain is, well, not the best developed but not the worst either. But the exploration of ideas makes up for any weaknesses in other areas. Good stuff here.
