Great Little Volume

This is a book I have loaned to a number of non-catholic friends to help them understand the Rosary and how it is used to deepen your faith. Everyone I have lent it to has come away with fresh insight and clearer vision. Kelly does an excellent job of showing the history of the rosary, and its purpose in our lives. Her chapters are: 1. What is the Rosary 2. The Rosary Then and Now 3. Mary in Our Lives 4. A Part into Prayer 5. The Rosary as Meditation 6. We Joyfully Adore: The Joyful Mysteries 7. Hold the Lamp: The Luminous Mysteries 8. Sorrow in the Mix: The Sorrowful Mysteries 9. The Promise of Glory: The Glorious Mysteries 10. A Place to Grow: Variations on the Rosary This book is a great tool in your spiritual toolbox.

An Excellent Introduction to The Rosary

Liz Kelly has written an excellent introduction to the rosary. Beginning with the question, "Why the rosary?" she addresses the most common resistances most people have to praying the beads and invites us to explore what so many others have found for themselves, the deep connection that can be achieved between the meditator and God. What the rosary is: Its' prayers, composition, and mysteries are each treated reverently and briefly in chapter one. Kelly relates much of her personal life and spiritual journey in the pages that follow. It was a journey that I was thankful to take with her. She writes with insight and clarity, applying life lessons to deepen our understanding of the rosary. Chapters cover the rosary as a pathway to pray and meditation then go into the Joyful, Sorrowful, and Glorious Mysteries. Scripture passages are given for each of these fifteen decades. She uses Isaiah 60 for the fourth glorious mystery commemorating Mary's assumption into heaven; Revelation 11 for Mary's coronation. I highlight these two only because they are the most problematic for non Catholics. Using canonically recognized Bible passages by both Protestants and Catholics is a nice "bridge-builder" and will hopefully assist more people in digging deeper into this form of prayer. Printed in 2001 this edition doesn't contain any of the new Mysteries of Light but then that is no reason not to purchase this book. Other variations are offered such as The Rosary to The Holy Wounds, and the Divine Mercy Chaplet. A novena is also included. Rounding out the book are questions pertaining to each chapter. These are a fine resource for personal or group reflection. The Seeker's Guide to The Rosary by Liz Kelly is a great primer and introduction to praying and meditating on the life of Christ.

Good Introduction to the Rosary

I recommend this short introduction to the Rosary. Liz Kelly has written an outstanding guide book on the Rosary. Let me say this, before I read this book, my knowledge of the Rosary was limited at best. However, after reading this book, I can now say that I not only understand the Rosary, but appreciate it."The Catechism calls the rosary the "epitome of the whole Gospel". Why? It is scriptural meditation; thirteen of the fifteen mysteries, or meditations, are drawn directly from the New Testament. The Rosary works on multiple levels: it is a physical object; it involves the intellect and the imagination in mediation; and its purpose is developing spiritual insight and ultimately, connection with God."
