They weren't tempted by others for affairs even though she dated. Payne Magnuson, who fell in love with Candace Verone, as Peter Maggio, when he was 24 and working for her family, is now back in New York and accused of murder. He had disappeared [or died?] 12 years ago. Eden Miller, now 31, shows up at the funeral of her brother in disguised, yet Sister Max recognizes her. Eden had escaped her violent crime-family to protect her son. Danny Oliphant is a traitorous federal agent whose cleverness leads to disaster. He wants to prove that he is better than Payne. Sophie Verone is Eden's grandmother and wife of Gus Verone. Now that Eddy is dead Gus wants Eden's son and Sophie tricks Eden into facing her grandfather. Luke Borman was in on the take-down and supposed to kill Payne. An ambush and a take-over of the Verone family by. . . . . Angela was married to Nicky, the girlie maker, but having an affair with Eddy. Payne had sent Nick to prison. Nick wanted revenge. When was Eden going to tell Payne that he has a son? Could she protect her son from her family? It seems that all of the men die young. There is a great cross country chase with dropped intel from the wrong sources. They didn't know who to trust other than Payne's mentor, Skip. Great plot -- great characters - just a little lax here and there - but a great read. Definitely Recommended --M -- bed hoping at the most awkward moments.
