Loved it!

The interactive stories really helped my kids understand the concept of how the Lord views money. They enjoyed the challenge of looking up the bible verses that they had read in the story and getting a bigger concept of money rather than that it is fun to spend. It was a book we all looked forward to sharing together.

For religious parents and educators teaching kids to make the right choice...

This curriculum begins with a story and each chapter progresses with the characters exploring different ideas and values about money with the ultimate goal of saving so everyone can attend a baseball camp. However, ultimately, they decide to sacrifice their savings to help another child receive an operation. Thus, we arrive at the final conclusion, "It is better to give than receive." Biblical references are used in each section. For example, debt is addressed with a quote, "Keep out of debt and owe no man anything." I found this extremely impressive, especially if parents are looking to teach their children what God says about money (besides Mom and Dad). Of course, as with any biblical book, each reader will interpret whether words are to be taken literally or is there a meaning they represent instead? - Thus more discussion with your child! The drawings in the book are very plain, very simple, old fashioned, and resemble some found in children's bibles. They are NOT like the modern children or jars represented on the cover. This would be my only disappointment as the book claims to be for 8-12 year olds and I have doubts that the modern hip ipod bearing child would be inspired by these images. Thus parents and instructors may have to step in to give modern examples but this really isn't hard to do. I am disappointed it is viewed as a curriculum because I saw a lot of value beyond religious education class. I certainly felt teens could benefit from the advice and religious parents would definitely want it in their home library. Maybe each chapter could be a dinner discussion... I definitely think the focus of the book is intended to be how God wants us to handle money. This is not a workbook to teach the technicalities of balancing, checkbooks, the introduction of stock issues, or about saving in Roth IRA's (Individual Retirement Funds). It is much more about making the right choices and setting the right example in accordance with biblical references.

Great for getting started

The book gets kids thinking about how to save. It gets them thinking about others needs before their own. The artwork is fantastic. It's good for short lessons like 45 minute Sunday school.
