The Second Painter's Problem Book - Joseph Dawley as told to Gloria Dawley Watson - Guptill Publications New York Copyright 1978, First Printing 1978, First Edition This description may be from another edition of this product.
This book is a sequel to The Painter's Problem Book. It's a 9"x12" book, 144 pages, with 80 large color and 20 large black and white illustrations. Like the first book, this one tackles 20 problem subjects with a demonstration of each. Each demonstration consists of an introduction describing material and colors used plus any initial tips. This is followed by 4 large, 2/3 page in size, images illustrating block in, an initial coloring, refinement, and the finished piece. Each image is accompanied by several paragraphs describing colors used, salient points, and additional tips and techniques. The book's illustrations consist of 1 B & W (block-in) plus 3 color plates per lesson. The remaining plates are of Dawley's works and are mostly color plates. The demonstrations in this book are: 1) Copper Tea Kettle 2) Brass Umbrella Stand 3) Pewter 4) Dusty Lantern 5) Peeling Paint 6) Conch Shell 7) Straw Basket 8) Porcelain Bowl with Design 9) Crystal Bowl With Flowers 10) Marble 11) Glass of Water with Ice 12) Condensation Droplets on Glass. 13) Velvet Beret 14) Heavy Fabric with Design 15) Roses 16) Apples 17) Grapes 18) Watermelon 19) Peaches 20) Fireplace (fire) It's an excellent book and I think any beginning or intermediate artist should have it in their collection - right along side the first.
