"No me saques sin razon,ni me guardes sin honor....Don't draw me without reason, nor keep me without

This novel completes the John Savage trilogy.I wrote a review of the sequel,"The Savage Trail" on August 27,2008. I have to say without any reservation, that when it comes to Western writers, they just don't come any better. As I said in my other review,I am new to this writer, and boy o boy, have I ever been missing something. Sherman ,and that's his real name, actually Jory Tecumseh Sherman, although he sometimes has used an aka of Cort Martin, was born in 1932 and has been writing for over 40 years, producing over 300 books since 1965.He actually started out writing poetry in San Francisco;and when you read one of his books,it doesn't surprise you.His masterful skills in descriptive writing, must make him one of the best among the many excellent western novel writers. Here's just a sample ,of much of what you will find; "He finished eating and stepped into the stirrup, feeling the muscular power of Gent beneath him as he settled into the cradle of his saddle. The creak of leather was reassuring in this alien land and as he moved back onto the road,John felt as rich as any man could be.He had a good horse, money in his pocket, gold in his saddlebags, and a friend waiting for him atop the mesa that jutted out from a mountain like the entrance to a shrine. An hour later,a jackrabbit jumped in front of him and he heard the ominous rattle in a nearby bush. The rabbit bounded out of sight and the rattler went silent.A few moments later,he saw a man on horseback riding slowly toward him from the south. His senses picked up as if pricked by the spine of a Spanish bayonet, and his hand droppped to the butt of his pistol." In the words of Lee Ioccoca, who once said; "If you can find a better car,go buy it." ...I say, If you can find better western writing...go read it. I thought I would see what else I could find about this writer;so I checked out the site "Fantastic Fiction" and looked up Jory Sherman and was amazed what I found. There you will find his books listed with photos of them.I hadn't realized he was the author of the "GUNN" series among may others. There is also an excellent website "Jory Sherman.com. If you have read other novels by this writer, you won't be surprised by what I have said,If you haven't ,go read one of his novels;you'll be pleasantly surprised, and like me,will want to read more of them. If you like the artwork on these western s,you'll really enjoy what you get on Sherman's novels ; and this one is a good example.
