This cleverly written story about the Santa secret is a real page turner!

Everyone was trying to get Kari to say what she wanted Santa to bring her for Christmas, but she wasn't telling. Both Mama and Daddy tried, but she still wouldn't say. Mike said that one time he forgot and ended up with underwear. Kevin said she might "get something really weird." Kari wasn't budging and only said to them, "Santa already knows what I want." The family decided that maybe if they went to the mall she would tell Santa. Perhaps that would work. D. B., their bloodhound, just listened and watched as the family tried to get Kari to say what she wanted for Christmas. After they got back from visiting Santa everyone was smiling and happy and told everyone else what they asked for. Everyone, except for Kari. Even Daddy admitted he wanted basketball shoes to replace his smelly old ones. When they asked her again what she wanted, Kari just grinned and said, "it's Santa's secret." Even D. B. knew on Christmas Eve that this might just be a big problem. Christmas day her brothers carried her to the tree. There were all kinds of presents and everyone was excited. Kari had some too, but her real present hadn't arrived. Kevin wanted Daddy to start a fire in the fireplace and as he knelt down to get the fire ready . . . wait! Something was up the chimney. Could it be the Santa secret!? This was a very clever page turning Christmas "mystery." The story was so well crafted that just when the reader feels that Kari will be very disappointed the action picks up and the Santa secret is discovered. The art work is charming and compliments the story. This is a Level Two Reading Level: 2.7. Even D. B. the bloodhound couldn't figure out this one!
