Book Overview

Little did Louis L'Amour realize back in 1960 when he publishedThe Daybreakers,a novel about two brothers who came west after the Civil War, that he had begun creating what would become perhaps North America's most widely followed literary family: the Sacketts. The stories of ten generations of Sackett man and women as they forged westward from tyranny-wracked seventeenth-century England across the American continent have captivated readers for three...

The Sackett Family Tree

Knowing one's family heritage is big business these days, as many people want to trace their ancestry back as far as they can. But who would have thought when Louis L'Amour published the Daybreakers in 1960 that the family of Sackett brothers and cousins would make such a big impact in this arena. I have one of these books, and have had since it came out. It does indeed fill in some of the gaps which I know LL wanted to fill in with other books, but didn't have the chance to. For that reason alone this book is worth having to help keep the reader straight as to who was related to whom and so forth. There is a nice section detailing this. All in all this book is a fine addition to any Louis L'Amour collector's set of his works.

Sackett Companion: A Personal Guide to the Sackett Novels

Great insights to writer's background and knowledge and and insipriation to all Louis L'Amour Fans. A must for anyone into the writings of Louis L'Amour whiter Sackett novels or other works.

Great Companion Add

I'm on the road all the time so I've basically listened to most of the Sackett series on tape or CD. The problem with that compared to reading the book myself is that I miss some of the background details of the series. This book does a great job of filling in the gaps....Even for those who personally read the series. There's more of the back story that's left out of the books for one reason or other......But seeing the family tree that L'Amour made for all the generations is really something you'll want to see if you like the series as much as I do....

A must have for any Western lover.

All Sackett novels are good, but this book makes them great. I keep it nearby whenever I'm reading a Sackett novel to get more information on characters. It is also wonderful all by itself, with biographies and poems throughout. Jenny J.
