A Super Summary

Karl Christ's The Romans provides an excellent overview of the laws, religions, lifestyles, and technologies of the Roman people.Granted, the first 100-pages dryly surveys the battles and personalities that resonate throughout history; however, the rest of the book describes such fascinating facts as what most Romans ate for dinner and wore to work. Readers also learn about the evolution of Roman art and how the organization of their military enabled them to rule over most of the Western world. The table of contents makes it easy to locate the most interesting aspects of the Roman culture. The Romans presents a quick and comprehensive summary of a remarkable civilization. Unfortunately, some chapters are dull, while others are extremely engaging.
