This earlier book is a good companion to the 1980 Romagnoli's The New Italian Cooking. The books are similar--clear narrative, good recipes and excellent suggestions that are easy to follow. There is minor overlap. The New Italian Cooking includes lots of meat-based dishes. The Romagnolis' Meatless Cookbook is not strictly vegetarian. It includes fish, eggs and cheese recipes. Nonetheless, even a dedicated vegan will find lots of things to cook and sample in it. Any fan of Italian cuisine will find loads of recommendations, hints and suggestions on how to become better at home preparation of really good food. My guess is that beginning cooks will be able to do well, but experienced home cooks will do really well in using these books. I purchased the Meatless Cookbook because I like The New Italian Cooking so much and because I no longer eat meat. I use them both regularly. Buon Appetito!
