Excellent overview of the land, climate, and ecosystems

The many stunning photos alone would make this book a keeper. The writing is clear and engaging, so everyting would be clear even if you read the chapters out of order, say, by starting with the ecosystems rather than the geology. Books like this anchor a very useful middle ground between specialty works and the more-informative kind of travel guides like Moon and Compass American.
