My Favorite Australian Novel. Quintessentially Melbourne!

Look - I will not type a huge long review. But this is my favorite Australian novel. There is something very "Sunday Afternoon watching the Footy crowd stroll by" about this book. I came upon Melbourne late in life. I was 32 when i first moved here (having met a Melbourne girl and married her - of course). Melbourne is so different from my first two home towns (Boston and Sydney). And when I read this novel i felt as if it gave one knowledge about what it is like to live in Melbourne all one's life. This time around I have been in Melbourne for over 12 years. It is a fabulous city. It makes Sydney look like a sad, overweight prima donna. Sydneysiders spend alot of time and effort telling us why Sydney is better than Melbourne. They do this because they have to. People in Melbourne do not react - they don't need to. Melbournites know exactly who has the short end of the stick and they have no intention of arguing. So, "do yourself a favor" - read this book. It will make you smile.......
