This is a tough book to describe because it covers so much territory. It made me laugh, but also made me a little sad. It was occasionally raunchy, but also made me feel romantic. It shares in gory detail the author's mistakes and flaws, but also made me envious that I don't have the courage to do the things he has done. And to top it all off I learned infinitely more about French culture and people from this book than I did during the time I actually spent in France. This author has led a fascinating life and shares it with the reader in a "warts-and-all" fashion that made me feel amused, smug, and envious all at the same time. I may just go read it again.
