Book Overview

Lars Olafson moves with his parents to the old family farm near Valley Forge, Pennsylvania, to live with his aged aunt Cass. Lars is miserable--until he meets Geordie, a ghost whose stories of the Revolutionary War are as exciting as those of an eyewitness. When Aunt Cass dies suddenly, Lars is faced with a mystery linked to the Revolutionary War--and Geordi's ghostly stories are his only chance of solving it.

This was the greatest book I have EVER READ!!!!!!!!!!!

I got it from the school library and I absolutely HATED having to stop reading it. It was that great!!! If I could've rated it above five stars it would've gotten a 100!! It was very realisticand exciting. It was the best book. Everyone should read it! I'm going to buy it and I'm going to read it over and over! You have to get this book. It was so well written I felt like I was there. Mostly when I'm reading books It feels like I'm looking in, but not right there. I even wished I could meet them. In some parts it made me cry, which happens rarely. It was SUPERB!!!You just have to get this book! You won't regret it! I SWEAR!!!Dorthea Jensen is a great author! I'm so glad she wrote this book!!!

Great Book

This was a really good book, and I have read it several times. The author makes the characters very real, and uses familiar events and friendship to tell a story about our country's history. Vocabulary and flow of words make this book very hard to put down!

History is a puzzle with pieces missing!

I love this book as a way to introduce history to my children. It shows the difference between a 1st hand account, from the shade/ghost Geordie who lived at that historical time, and our historical account. The differences in the story show easily how history is not written in stone and depends on the available information and the slant of the writer. Even the best of histories will probably have "pieces" missing. It also introduces a newer perspective that the American Revolution was perhaps The First American Civil War since 2/3 of the population at that time were either loyalists or neutral. Besides all this educational talk, the story line is fun and my children begged me to read more!

I Have Read This Book 6 Times!

I love this book VERY much! I thoroughly recommend it! I have nearly memorised the story of Lars as he settles at Philadelphia and meets Geordie, learns his story, and finds out the mystery of his dead aunt's will. I think everyone should read this!

This is a great book!

I think this is a teriffic book. I have read it more than once. The book tells the story of Lars and his ghostly friend Geordie. In the corse of the book Geordie helps Lars in a huge way. I think this is a book everyone should read.
