The grace of fasting is a gift from God that positions us to experience more of God s power and affections. We fast to encounter God more and to change the world! Done in the right spirit, fasting... This description may be from another edition of this product.
Having read several books on the subject, I found that Bickle expounds on perspectives of fasting overlooked by other authors. His commentary on the Bridegroom fast, as mentioned in Matthew 9, is extraordinary. In addition to discussing the fasting of food, Bickle also teaches on what it means to fast time, words and one's reputation. I wouldn't consider this book in the "Fasting 101" category, but for those who have studied the subject, the contents certainly give new insights into this form of worship.

This book has been really helpful for me as I seek to understand the gift of fasting in more depth. Very helpful, very inspiring.

This book is a very practical, down to earth, yet challenging call to become an intercessor, and to practice fasting in different forms. I 'discovered' this book after hearing an address by Dana Candler, the coauthor at a church conference. This book, which is, as I said, a primer or handbook on the fasted lifestyle, or the Sermon on the Mount lifestyle, represents well the new prayer movement which seems to sweeping the globe through the 24/7 group and groups like the International House of Prayer in Kansas City. Full of insights, honesty and grit. You may not agree with some of the "end times" theology presented at the end of the book; do not let this dissuade you from reading it.
