Adventures in the Wallowa Valley

Barbara Lantz's first venture into the world of literature is a moving and touching story. The story follows Kathy Bradly, a divorced mother of three, who finds a connection with the ghost of a Nez Perce chief named Joseph. As their bond strengthens, Kathy learns of the real life tragedy that befell his tribe, when in 1877 the US government forced them off their land Oregon's Wallowa Valley. Both Kathy and the Chief are bound together by mutual sorrow. Driven by a sense of overwhelming injustice, Kathy ventures forth to the Wallowa Valley in an attempt to right a 100 year old wrong. Mrs. Lantz's writing style is both visceral and immediate, you are instantly drawn into her detailed characters. She has a real sense of connection when describing her characters connections with nature. This book has everything from a haunting encounter with a Nez Perce ghost to a desperate flight down the flooding waters of the Snake river. If you have any interest in the plight of the native peoples of this country, I highly recommend this passionate and insightful book.
