Perhaps one of the best books written by Anne McCaffrey

This book is an amazing work by Anne McCaffrey telling of how the Dragon Riders save the girl who hears dragons and how they defeat the Renegades of pern really exciting story a must read

Its got EVERYTHING

Hm, its kinda disappointing to see how low others rated this book. This is definetly Annie's best book. It has elements of everything: suspense, character building, and an excellent plot.Annie starts the book out from many different angles (and while some say its confusing) it is sooooooo awesome to see how everything comes together. The story arouses your emotions (hate for Lady Holdess Thella and love for Armania and Jayge) and keeps you readingSeriously you WILL NOT regret reading this book as it contains all the elements of what has made the Pern series so lovable.

Wonderful, wonderful, wonderful book!

This book, although confusing in the beginning, is a worthy link between The White Dragon and All The Weyrs. It is almost a summary of the first three books, starting before Dragonflight, and ending just before All The Weyrs. A must read for all Pern fans. All the Weyrs won't make sense without it. A truely wonderful book.

Very Good

I loved this book. At first it is a little bit confusing, but if you read it over, the plot as a whole gets better, and you will love it! The book is very well written and organized. I think that this book is a must-read. I have not read the other Pern series books, but I have read The Renegades of Pern, and I am now hooked on the whole series. This book is excellent! :^)

My most recent reading of Pern, but not my last....

I've read most of this series, but I never get tired of this fantastic weave of Science fiction/fantasy. McCaffrey shows her range as she turns a dragon-wary squirt of a child (Jayge) into a respectable holder, who eventually ends up liking dragons.

A fastinating read.

This book gives the reader a different view of Pern than the Weyrs and Halls. It shows how the common, unconnected people live, and their attitude towards, (read fear of) dragons and their riders. The people, for a change, are ordinary people, not the Lords and Ladies of Pern. They are simple people, trying to scratch out a living. The characters are interesting and well-rounded. It is wonderful to see how the disenfranchised try to survive, even under the threat of Threadfall. A must-read for all Anne MacCaffrey lovers.
