I very much enjoyed Jeffrey's book. It is written for the person who has 3 minutes a day to get ideas and inspiration on building their business by referral. Each chapter is a page or two long, and gets right to the point. The book is broken into main sections, including: - The art of asking for the referral - Integrating your marketing and referral strategies - Third party referrals (from the trade) - Engaging employees to generate referrals - Networking, the do's and don'ts - Incentive systems that work, and don't work - Tracking and measuring your referrals - Generating automatic referrals without ever asking for them. It was fun to read, and Jeffrey clearly has a handle on what works, what doesn't, and different creative ways to grow your business based on building relationships and referrals. Kudos.

Jeffrey's book is insightful and practical. You can pick it up at any time, and read it from the front, middle, or back. He has helped bridge the gap between marketing, selling, small business, and the green industry. I have personally given several copies away to fellow contractors.

Jeffrey Scott has the experience and success record to back up his ideas presented in this great book on the aspects of referrals for landscape companies. With many specific ideas and real life stories this book is written in such a way that you can pick it up and get bite sized chuncks of information quickly without having to re-read to get back into the flow of the book. When you are ready for more ideas and you only have a minute to spare you can open it up and get quick concise ideas that you can immediately put to use. If you are in leadership in THE Green Industry you need this book. Just one or two of these ideas could be worth thousands or even millions of times what you would invest in buying and reading it. Out of my personal library this is in my top 5, I have given this to several of my friends in the industry and I refer back to it regularly.

I can attribute increased sales to this book!

Late last year I began a five month long strategic planning course and my mentor in the class gave me a copy of this book. (After reading it I bought six more copies to give to friends and several of my key sales staff). Last winter I was focused on the customer acquisition process and a strategy to significantly increase the number of new customer relationships for the upcoming season. If the downturn in the economy meant that people were not going to be spending as much, then I needed a plan to add more customers to cover the difference. Jeffrey Scott's book gave me more ideas than I could successfully implement last season. I like the format of the book - short topics with action items for immediate results. This is the type of book that you read and then work on implementing the best two or three ideas right away. Then return again and again to get new ideas that are relevant to where your business is today. This book was the impetus for our defined referral program ([...]) as well as a follow up "refer a friend" program. This year we have seen a 100% increase in our referral leads over the previous year, which has in part attributed to our 80% increase in customers served this year over last year. Can I attribute all of this to Jeffrey's book, no. But his book certainly did provide the basis for some of the solid campaigns that have provided the kind of results we needed to achieve this year. The value of these new customer relationships will only continue to grow as they refer us to their friends and neighbors. I'll continue to build on the success we had this past year by returning to Jeffrey's book for new ideas as well as to help me focus on what we are currently doing well.
