I loved this book

I think this is my favourite book by Catherine Coulter as it has the perfect ingredients for me in a historical romance. A tortured heroine, Katharine and a man who wants her passionately. This book contains passion, danger as well as romance of course but this is not your typical romance book. This book is certainly not for the faint hearted. The hero, Julien St. Clair can be quite ruthelss and harsh, even with Katharine but I never, ever felt that this was not done out of love. Julien meets Katherine as she is dressed like a boy and engaged in a duel with her brother. He finds out immediately she is a girl but he is fascinated by this beautiful but unusual girl. She is certainly not like the women he knows. She dresses plainly, loves to fish and her temperament is a fiery as her red hair. He almost immediately falls in love..or in lust with her and wants her to become his. But Katharine, who had thought she had found a friend in Julien, is horrified at the thought and refuses him...with dreadful consquences for her...her father is abusive, you see... There lurks a secret behind Katharine's terror of getting married to any man...a secret even she is unaware of. Only a ruthless and desperate resort by Julien uncovers the horrible truth. A truth that shocks him and makes him understand her and love her even more. ** SPOILERS ALERT ** Yes there is a particular scene in which Julien forces his way on Katharine (while she is bound and blindfolded) that many may dislike but I didnt feel that Julien raped her, he was trying to give her pleasure (because otherwise she wouldnt have let him as she was terrified of sex) and it was crticial to the story and it was hot as a scene anyway... *** END ** I prefer the stories I read to have a lot of drama in them, flowery romances with no real danger, no troubled past etc appeal little to me. If you love ruthless and passionate heroes coupled with beautiful, tortured heroines this is the book for you. That's why I love most of Coulter's books because they have all these ingredients...and more!

Intense

Catherine Coulter, once again, gives an unforgettable story about true love conquering all. Well done! If you haven't read it, what are you waiting for?

Couldn't put it down, sad when I finished!

I love the characters, the way they re-emerge as friends of new characters. The leading men and women are so mean, good, loving, spunky and passionate. I'm currently searching for and reading all her books. Don't know what I'll read once I'm caught up.

I loved it!

Who could not like this book? I loved it! I wish she still wrote in this style.

BEST HISTORICAL EVER

This book has replaced "The Heir" at the top of my list. Coulter has outdone herself with this book, I loved the characters instantly. I couldn't put it down. I read it in an afternoon. The books only flaw that I saw was that It wasn't part of a series, although I was literally jumping happy when Julien had a conversation with someone in her Magic series. If you've never read Coulter books start with this one, then move on to The Heir, then try the Magic series, and for a jump into modern times read Aftershocks. After this book you'll be an instant convert.
