The Realness of a Woman aims to guide women towards self acceptance and self actualization. This book is divided into three parts: Seeking, Remembering, and Being. In each of these sections, the author examines common issues that often cause women to settle with a life that does not make use of their full potential. Not only does the author explain the issue in detail using real life examples but also provides realistic advice on how to tackle these issues. To further reinforce these notions, each topic has a summary section, practical empowerment activities, and an affirmation for practical use and reference. The Realness of a Woman tackles many subjects that many books of this type gloss over. I was particularly impressed with the chapter called An Illusion. This section discussed many of our deepest fears such as the fear of rejection, the fear of being alone, and the fear of financial instability. Though these fears all represent real potential situations, the author explains that more often than not the fear of these situations is more real and debilitating than if one had to actually deal with these situations. Thus, it is fear that keeps us locked in unhealthy lives and relationships. Another section I particularly enjoyed was Why-Because in which the author reminds us that sometimes we question so much that we start to sound like a toddler asking why all the time.
