great characters and suspense

Grace and Charlie dated for about six months (casually) and then one night she showed up at his place unexpectedly and found him about to be with another woman. Then, eighteen months later Grace finds herself needing the coldest, most shark-like lawyer she can find for her little sister accused of murder... and she turns to Charlie. The little sister is accused of killing their step-father in a fit of rage - something they don't believe and the sister has NO recollection of. Then Grace herself finds an attacker trying to take her out. What's going on? Who's behind it? How will it all end? That is the suspense and quite an entertaining plot line. What I LOVED about this book though was the interactions between Charlie - who's a different man now living a more laid back rancher life and really has his act together - and Grace. Grace holds onto all that anger and hostility about the way her heart was broken, but what she finds is that perhaps it wasn't quite as she remembered it. SHE is the one who really grows and comes into her own in this book- it was treat. Perhaps Charlie hadn't known she meant to be exclusive or that he'd already won her heart. Did she act as though he was just once in a while good time Charlie? Can she work past her bitterness and into forgiveness? awesomeness, and one of the better short (200) page novels I've read for sure. My one negative would be that the official "bodyguard" added on top of rancher and lawyer felt over the top. I didn't see any need for that to be something he does on the side- the story would have been complete without it.
