The Quest for an Ethical World Trade Organization

In this book the author investigates the ethics of the world economic order promoted by the World Trade Organization (WTO). On the basis of evidence in the study leading to the book, the author takes the view that the WTO exists to serve the interests of the dominant group, the 'core' at the expense of the weakest, the 'periphery'. This cosmopolitan order raises questions of ethical nature. The book then explores Elisabeth Gerle's Global Ethics Model and proposes the possibility of a discourse between Gerle's Model, African Communitarian Ethics and Christian Trade Ethics. Out of this discourse, the author proposes a synthesized model of global trade ethics. The proposed model advocates a balance of global economics, politics and ethics-which Gerle and Stuckelberger among others, find lacking at the present. The book concludes with a call for continued discourse aimed at realizing our preferred WTO."
