As boring as textbooks may be; this one is the rarity that actually informs the reader. It is also done in a straightforward and minimalist manner.

This professor is great!

I go to Boise State University and this professor really knows his stuff! I have taken two classes with Dr. Landrum so far, and he really cares about his students. That is why he wrote this book. It's really not that big, which makes it less intimidating than flipping through huge books. Dr. Landrum requires this book for our Intro to Psych Majors class, but let me assure you he doesn't make nearly enough money off of it. He's not into it for the money. He just really wants his students to get the best out of their bachelor's in psych. I would recommend this book to anyone majoring in psychology. Then again, I am clearly biased!

Career Planning

I just changed my major to psychology at the end of last spring. My program requires a Career Planning course for psychology, this is my first semester of junior year. The course partnered with this book was a nice intervention. This is not a huge book, one could probably read it in one sitting. There is a lot of useful information about fields in psychology, graduate admissions, and multiple chapters on areas of undergraduate involvement that will make for a competitive student applying to grad school or for getting the most out of your undergrad experience in general. I liked the chapter on APA format, it is laid out very nicely. I have been raised in MLA format since frashman year in highschool, so has not been the easiest transition. I hear a lot of "students need to be doing x, y, z" to get into grad school, this book puts these things in perspective. I have followed a lot of the advice given in this book, like becoming involved with research, and I am getting more out of my classes and achieving better grades.

The Psychology Major: Career Option and Strategies for Success, 2nd Ed

I purchased this book for one of my Psychology classes and found it very helpful in my decision to do my Master's in that field. This is a great buy.
