Another Compelling Read

The Price, the second Matthews mystery by Mills-Macias, follows the same successful format of Obsession: a suspenseful mystery and characters who come alive on the page to grip your heart. This time Toni Matthews is wrestling not only with her own healing from her father's death, but with a shocking school shooting that involves her emotionally fragile sister, Melissa, and leaves Melissa's best friend paralyzed. Toni's intuitive sense that the shooter was not alone in his crime proves to be true, but initially threatens her budding relationship with Abe, the detective she's now engaged to--as does her struggle to distance herself from her former fiance, Brad. As Toni, Abe, Melissa, and Brad navigate some rocky roads in their relationships, readers will find themselves once more on the edge of their seats!

Kathi Macias has done it again. Kept me up late turning page after page of her fantastic novel, The Price. Second in the Matthews and Matthews detective series, this book resumes the fascinating story of the topsy-turvy life of Toni Matthews. You will find yourself on the edge of your seat, biting your lip, holding your breath, and rooting for this delightful young woman with her hunky boyfriend, Abe of the same last name. If you love suspense with a huge serving of romance, this book is one you won't want to miss.

Fantastic, riveting continuation of the Matthews and Matthews mystery series

The Price is an engaging story that begins with a tragedy. It reminded me of the Columbine shootings back in 1999. The heroine senses there is more to the crime than just a disillusioned former high school student, and of course, she's right because she's the heroine. :) The Price is action packed and loaded with tension. The characters are so real they seem like people I would know. I thought it was cool how the author related the title of the story to the theme several times. Impressive! I also loved how the author teased me as she went along, but still managed to surprise me in the end. I love not knowing whodunnit until they are revealed! Also, she weaves content from the previous book in seamlessly so you can read The Price as a stand-alone. However, I highly recommend Obsession as well. Both stories kept me on the edge of my seat because the story kept moving along. Not one boring page in the entire novel. That's a huge deal for me as I hate to read boring stories. I highly recommend The Price to suspense lovers and anyone who wants an exciting read.
