Perfect Timing

At a time when our civil liberties are disappearing at a scary rate, it's inspiring and sobering to read this book. Many people tell their stories in plain talk and plain language of how their rights were violated in this country--simply for expressing their opinions or standing up for what they believe. The stories are very personal. They talk about being jailed, shot at, beat up, blacklisted for their involvement with labor rights, peace and civil rights movements. And this isn't just the McCarthy period; it's throughout the 20th century. But they also talk about the joy and pride they have in the work they did. And that is what makes this book more inspiring than depressing.
