Perfect for what it is...

I thoroughly enjoyed this shorter, sweet novel that renews fans with their favorite family, the Malory's. If you loved the different characters from the various books and want to see a slice of their holiday lives and see how they are "doing"-then I think you'll enjoy this. I also found the story of the romance of Anna and Christopher Malory very sweet and charming-and is a nice lil way to "tie up" loose ends, explaining why some Malory's are a bit adventuresome and gifted, and leading into a much anticipated union for two of the older, beloved characters. If you are looking for a full length, sensual romance focusing on two main characters, then your looking at the wrong book. But if you want a endearing, uplifting story to read this holiday season I'd recommend this book. It's like having old friends stop by to visit and you'll finish the book with a smile on your face:)

The Present -- A Perfect Gift

This was a most befitting gift to the Malory family readers. "The Present" was like a diary to the readers. It told the story of one of the first Malorys and his love for the beautiful gypsy, Anatasia. The Malorys are gathered together at Christmas when a gift magically appears. After finally opening the gift, they discover it is actually a family heirloom -- in fact, a priceless heirloom. It's a journal tracing their heritage back to the second Marquis and the gypsy girl. "The Present" brings the Malory family closer together. It is also during this gathering that old family secrets are uncovered. Jason's love for Molly, the family housekeeper, is revealed, as well as the true parentage of Jason's son, Derek."The Present" is truly a good book. I am a Lindsey fan and have read all of her books.

I loved this book. My sister got me started on the Malory books and I couldn't put them down and now the lastest edition. I give this book 5 stars. I just hope Ms. Lindsey write more books on the Malory's and their decendents

I POSITIVELY LOVED IT!!!

"The Present" is fantastic. It not only tells us of the love story of Christopher Mallory and his rumored gypsy love Anastasia, but it gives us an update on the rest of the Mallory family. The present turns out to be a journal, written by Christopher and Anastasia Mallory, telling the current Mallorys of their struggle against society's laws. Anastasia Mallory was most definitely a gypsy and therefor not in Christopher's class. But against all odds, their love brought them together and made them one. Their story inspires the other Mallorys especially Jason. He's been trying to convince Molly into marrying him but she keeps refusing, not wanting to bring scandal to his name. But thanks to the present, he finally gets her to accept his proposal which brings joy to their son, Derek and surprise yet congratulations from his brothers. The Mallorys are as close as ever and as memorable. "The Present" was the very first Mallory novel that I ever read. It inspired me to purchase the first five Mallory novels, "Love Only Once", "Tender Rebel", "Gentle Rogue", "The Magic Of You", and "Say You Love Me". I loved every one of them and so will you. Trust me!

A great Christmas present!

At first I was disappointed that this wasn't a full-length novel, but once I started reading it, I was enthralled. Any story about those marvelous Malorys is bound to brighten my day! As a delightful break from all the swashbuckling action they're usually knee-deep in the middle of, it was a wonderful treat to see the Malorys interacting as a family. I consider this book to be the author's contribution to the holiday short stories that are usually bound up in paperback anthologies. Thanks for the Christmas present, Ms. Lindsey!The only criticism I would offer is that it would have been interesting if Christopher's and Anastasia's story had been told in the first-person as if we were actually reading their story along with the rest of the family. There could have been switch-offs between Anastasia's memoirs and Christopher's, just the way the story said the journal was written. That could have been an intriguing twist.Finally, let me add my call to all the other readers and reviewers who have been pleading for... yes, JEREMY'S STORY! Hell's bells, we've waited long enough!
