So many characters by lots of plot here!

This is a book my mother-in-law left for me to read when she was here at the end of October. I had never read anything by this author before. The book was much better than I had expected! There are lots of characters to keep track of so you do have to concentrate when you read it. I enjoyed the twists and turns. It's also not the typical medical mystery book I am so fond of so that was a nice change too. I will seek out other books by this author in the future.

Good Series Of Stories!

This is the third book of the Stephen Frey series featuring Christian Gillette.In the previous novels he had been elected the chairman of Everest Capital by one vote.He has become one of the premeire figures in the world of American business.His firm Everest Capital is one of the strongest companies. Jesse Wood is trying to become the first black President of the United States.He is being bankrolled and backed by Elijah Fort a billionaire who owns Ebony Enterprises.Fort wants Wood to select Gillette as his Vice-President to strengthen the ticket. Samuel Prescott Hewitt if the CEO of U.S. Oil.He is also the head of an old organization called the Order.The Order has shaped events in America since the days of fighting Indians. He is trying to stop Jesse Wood.Thanks to the Order Gillette is having problems with his gambling casino and his NFL franchise the Las Vegas Dice.Hewitt has also arranged for an Everest company CST to become subject to an SEC investigation.Gillette is also beginning to question the loyalty of Allison Wallace his partner in Everest. This is a very interesting book that will keep you wondering who the good guys are and who the villains are.Be sure to read it.

Stephen Frey weaves an intricately plotted novel, again featuring Christian Gillette. Sure the novel was a little over the top but it was darn entertaining. I rushed to get to the end. With the usual back-stabbing and corruption, you never know who you can trust. This series has been truly entertaining, but I'm wondering if it might not be best to wrap it up with just one more novel. I'm ready for something fresh from this very talented author. Highly recommended.

Still Packed ... can't wait to see Frey's next novel

This novel starts to circle around Christian Gillette, leading fund raiser in the financial market and had earned millions to the investor more than anyone could. Now it is time for all his open doors to get shut down, get his strings pulled all over by few of the powerful persons in the society and Masters of a secret society. Now a door opens for him to run for US nations VP. But with all the strings pulled all over, Christian runs thru' lot of paranoid situations. Frey have taken as much twists as one can to put a situation more thrilling and entertaining for the reader. Christian at the same time handles perfectly as one would in real world scenario. Chirstian shows passion in what he believes in and does all his best to run the show well. But everything goes way beyond his control and noone had the answers for why he runs thru' all those troubles...Stiles trys all his resources to help Gillette and Allison played neatly to what she wants to...she played a major role in this novel Christian gets into the characters Forte, Hewitt, Woods whom he never faced before and everyone around him starts to manipulate his moves. Now this time it becomes more harder for Gillette to handle (giving the reader exactly what they want). Filled with mystery, & suspense thru' out, Christian have to handle the situation by himself. He left with trusting no one, even Stiles or Allison or Nigel. Everything runs over him as surprise; opponent are well experienced to hit the balls right ways to get the ball into socket. Christian is now on "Check", no where to move. As predicted, Frey had given his best as he did with "Chairman" and "Protege". He added lot of turns and hidden aspects to deliver this novel much more lively & interesting. Frey flashes lot of happenings at one time, making the novel more like watching a movie. If one like financial fictions this one is a sure to get entertained. Frey makes you to turn the pages, and never lets you to get you doing with some thing else...It is packed with full of thrills... One things I felt is, the novel is so good that I can't wait for Frey to get his next novel ready. I wish Frey continues this series of Gillette.

Complex and absorbing power plays with escalating stakes

Christian Gillette is the chairman of Everest Capital in New York. He is one of society's most eligible bachelors. Allison Wallace, his managing partner, and contributor of five billion dollars to his current fund intrigues Christian, both for her business acumen and physical beauty. The chapters run like a television show flipping back and forth between Christian, Jesse Wood, and Senator Hewitt. Jesse Wood is the first African American nominated to become president. His handlers want Christian to be his vice president nominee for the Democratic Party. Senator Hewitt belongs to the Order, a secret society with select members that will stop at nothing to preserve their way of thinking. An exciting novel set in the world of high finance with unique characters and quick action. I realized also that it was helpful that I read The Protégé so I knew more details about the main characters.
