Brown's work is meant to cover the basics, not to be in-depth on any one topic. He does this admirably within the limitations of the genre. Having read both the pre-publication manuscripts and the finished product, I can say that Brown's work is a compromise between his talents and the demands of the publisher. That said, this is an excellent primer for any college-bound student. It gives basic information and hints while encouraging the reader to find a path best suited for his or her own needs. All in all, it is an excellent read: always informative and occasionally amusing.
