I am an avid reader. I particularly enjoy historical fiction and specifically multi-generational family saga series. Nicolaysen's "New York" series of 5 is highly recommended. In each book, the characters are diverse and well developed, as are the plot lines. The historical context, particularly developing NYC is well considered and presented. A difficult series to find since is out-of-print, but well worth the treasure hunt. "The Pirate of Gramercy Park" covers the period1803-1880. The following is from the cover of the mass market pb: "With riches amassed since the days when the family called their city New Amsterdam, the de Kuypers took their place at the pinnacle of the gilded age. In a century when the nation pushed westward, was torn by Civil War, and was ruled by Wall Street robber barons, the de Kuypers became giants of shipping and builders of new railroads. Their men were captains of industry, their women and their scandals the talk of society. And as their influence reached from the Pacific to Europe, their dreams and vision became the American destiny." "The de kuypers continue their spectacular rise as they accumulate enormous wealth and power during the golden age of fortunes, taking their place among such American kinds of capitalism as the Astors and Vanderbilts"
