Highly recommended book!

This is a highly recommended book. Vehlow has very good writing and I would love to read another book of hers if she had one. I would highly recommend this book to anyone! Gwenith is a great writer!

Wonderful plot, with very slight mistakes

I am writing this review because I feel VERY strongly that some reviewers did not give a young budding author a chance to prove herself. I am an avid 'Phantom of the Opera' fan, and in being so, took an interest that someone actually wrote a sequel which ended much more satisfactorily than the first novel. Though the book has some down sides,(i.e. some bad grammar and out of place words) the plot, the very foundation of the book, was magnificent! And also very creative. The characters in this book, I thought, did not differ from Gaston LeRoux's in too many ways. Erik did lose a little of his mysterious persona, but as the author explains, he is deeply passionate about Christine and now (after she has come back to him) wishes to live with his love where she would be the most comfortable. There were many tender moments in this book that I missed in Gaston's rather violent portrayal of Erik. And I'm glad Raoul was portrayed the way he was in this book. I've never particularly cared for him; one could say I had always "rooted for" Erik. Christine seems a little more real in this book, as I sometimes felt she was becoming too dazed and hypnotized in Gaston's novel. I would recommend this book to all fans, because it is an intriguing sequel to 'The Phantom of the Opera', and well worth the expense if one is willing to use his imagination and forgive its few mistakes.

Excellent book! A must-read for all!

I just finished reading "The Phantom of Paris" and I absolutely loved it! I have read both Gaston Leroux's original novel, and Gwenith Vehlow's, and the similarities in style, characters, and emotions are undeniable. Ms. Vehlow brings back the best loved characters from the original novel, including the ever-bickering managers, Moncharmin and Richard, the mysterious Persian, the innocent little ballet girl, Meg, and the infamous diva, Carlotta. This book is full of gripping, intertwining sub-plots, exquisite descriptions, and a beautiful love story, not to mention a wonderful message of hope and an ending that will bring you to tears. A story of hate and love, revenge and justice, bitterness, forgiveness, and redemption, this is a must-read whether you are a die-hard "Phantom Phan," or simply someone like me who read it at the recommendation of a best friend. And by the way-lovely picture on the back, Gwen!

Suspense and love

I really enjoyed this book as it had such vivid detail that I felt as though I was living it rather than just reading it. The words the author used to describe the feelings Christine and Erik have for each other made me feel as if I had known them and understood their relationship for a long time.As tempted as I was to rush to the back of the book and read the ending to find out what happened, I resisted and read through the entire novel to see how things unfolded page by page.I did read the whole book in one day, as it kept me intrigued as I read. I had other things to do but just couldn't put the book down until I found out how this mystery unfolded and how the love story concluded.Kudos on such a well written book - especially by such a young (obviously very talented) woman!
