In a modern-day Sense and Sensibility with a little Woody Allen thrown in, The Perfect Elizabeth is about Liza and Bette, two sisters who deal with unemployment, infidelity, interfering parents, Hollywood, lemmings, a pregnancy, and a wedding.
I really loved this book. I found it witty, insightful, and thoroughly enjoyable. I related to Eliza and found myself caring about her and the other characters. The author seems to have a natural talent for creating characters that involve you in their lives. I also laughed out loud while reading it. I would recommend it to anyone.
Great quick read!

I just read this entire book over a weekend. I liked the humor and related to the whole neurotic, jewish, aimless-thirty something plot line. My only complaint was that it ended a little suddenly, and I would have liked more. But if you're looking for a funny, quick read, try the perfect elizabeth!
Starbucks Enthusiast Loves This Book!

As a frequent patron of Starbucks I thoroughly enjoy chatting endlessly about trivial matters as well as reading books that don't claim to be War and Peace. The Perfect Elizabeth is a great sit down with a cup of coffee kind of read. For anyone looking for a funny, warm, contemporary novel I say grab a cappuccino and buy this book!
A charming comedy about the spirit of true sisterhood
Published by Thriftbooks.com User , 24 years ago
The Perfect Elizabeth is a poignant and charming comedy about two sisters that go together like peanut butter and jelly. Their closeness is very tender and beautiful. They, like many women, struggle with relationships, careers and other things that life brings unexpectedly. At 32, Eliza, the narrator, has no idea what she wants in life. Frustrated by her lack of resourcefulness career-wise, she finds comfort in the arms of her boyfriend Gregor, whereas Bette is a teacher at a prestigious university and writes dissertations on English novels, but her love life isn't exactly great. Eliza wants her sister to be in a relationship, but when Bette meets the man of her dreams, she turns into a modern-day June Cleaver. Meanwhile, Eliza is still dazed and confused. By the end of the novel, the sisters have endured infidelity, neurotic parents and self-discovery.Smart, funny and touching, The Perfect Elizabeth is a book to be devoured. I marvel at Libby Schmais's sharp wit and precise comic timing. I highly recommend this book.
