My boyfriend loved this book as a gift, cant put it down.

Best Resource for Beginning Scandophiles

This atlas is one of the best possible collections of our knowledge about early Scandinavia. Although the term "Viking" is in the title, hopefully by reading this book you will learn that there was a whole lot more to primitive, expansionist Scandia. The book also does a great job of talking about all the players in Norden, rather than just the traditional trio. I'm a Scandinavian Studies student in college and this book has been an exceptional resource for multiple papers.

Very Informative

I found this book to be excellent for my requirements - it provided information clearly and was not overwhelming in detail. The maps are excellent. I recommend this book to everyone interested in Viking history. It makes an excellent reference book to have in your library.

An excellent introduction to the history of the Vikings

This colorful little book tells us plenty about the Vikings. It starts by briefly describing Scandinavia and even telling a little about the Norse Goddesses and Gods. Then we see a history of the notorious Viking raids, which began near the end of the eighth century AD. There's plenty of material about the Viking adventures in England. But we also get to read about Iceland, the Faroe Islands, Greenland, and other Viking destinations, including North America and Russia. And there's a mention of the famous Icelandic Sagas, the best known Viking literature. I enjoyed this book, and I recommend it.

Great reference guide

This book though small and short on pages is a good as the more lengthy reference books. Loaded with tons of great maps that show with clarity the actual extent of the vikings through out Europe. The reading is easy and full of easy to find valuable information. Well worth your money

Wow.

I love this book. The only book I had found worth reading on the subject was Jones' definitive A History of the Vikings, but it's somewhat dry and has the feel of a weighty textbook. This, however, is the perfect compliment to it: a brightly illustrated book, with a detailed timeline and vivid maps that really bring the past to life. Where other books have just thrown out some speculation and a few pictures of stolen coins, this book really draws you in and gives you a very realistic feel for who and what the Vikings were. This book belongs in EVERY Scandinaviophile's library.
