I loved this book. I am so glad I didn't let the negative reviews sway me. You may cry at times but the ending is more feel good than bad. I didn't know such terrible things were happening to the birds in the wild, that is the real tragedy; I think Sarah was very blessed to find a home where she was given her freedom even if it only lasted a few years. I feel those few years of freedom are better than a long life in a cage. It also sounded like she didn't know anything but cruelty until she came to live with Nancy. There is no question that Nancy loves her animals and I'm sure it took a lot for her to share her story with the world. I'm sure she helped a lot of other parrots to not have the same fate by telling her story.
Beautiful story told by a beautiful woman.

I enjoyed this book tremendously....smiling and laughing throughout Nancy's journey with Sarah. As for the negative reviewers...I think it's time you relax have a little fun. I think if Sarah could speak, she would want us all to know that it's not the years in your life, it's the life in your years. Thank you Nancy for sharing your story and for giving Sarah back her life. Bless you.

I bought this book for my 16 year old daughter. She loved this book. It was read in 4 days flat. She told me how the author talked about the parrot and how she felt the owner of the parrot needed help, she enjoyed this so much it is going onto the next child in my home.
honest and moving story for anyone who loves animals

I was moved by the author's honesty in writing what must have been a painful story to write. But there's a lot of humor in here as well! Sarah - the parrot - turns the author's life upside down in really funny and heartwarming ways. It's clear she loved Sarah and wanted the best for her. She celebrates Sarah's life in this book - anyone who loves animals will appreciate that.
Charming and emotional

I bought this book as a gift, but I couldn't stop myself from reading it all in one day! Nancy Ellis- Bell's moving story of her relationship with a "rescue" macaw she names Sarah is very compelling. The one-footed macaw and the author's menagerie of animals interact in amazing ways, and the author is actively involved with them, sometimes as an observer, but mainly as a loving "mom". There is plenty of humor in the book, but some very emotional moments, also. I recommend it highly!
