The Parent Adventure: Preparing Your Children for a Lifetime with God

Informed by research that reveals destructive parenting patterns are being handed down through most American families (including Christian households), The Parent Adventure looks to the church to help break this cycle and teach moms and dads how to prepare their kids for a lifetime with God. The problem starts when parents raise children based on their personal experiences growing up instead of using the Bible as the timeless, authoritative guide...

News Flash: Parenting isn't for the faint of heart

I like that it states right off the bat that the purpose of this book is to point parents to God's Word for advice. That means a lot to me as a Christian parent trying to figure out how to be a better parent to my children. I like that this book provides statics across America and have researched their answers before giving me the information. I found it very interesting to know some of the stats they brought out such as how many people think they know what God says about parenting, and where they get parenting advice from. I love that they blatantly point out that things don't matter and if we fail to equip our children with a faith in Jesus Christ we have failed our jobs. I don't think I've read a parenting book that hits it so dead on as this! I also love how both Rodney and Selma write together about this book. It is refreshing to read from both parents point of view and how they differ on tackling subjects. Each chapter ends with a prayer and some questions to encourge you or to discuss with your children about. For example, chapter four is about communicaton and some of the end questions are: *What can you share with your child about God's work in your life through prayer? *What verse can you teach your child this week that will teach them about the importance to talking to God? (They had answers in the book if you needed them such as Proverbs 1:8-9, or Phillipians 4:6) Honestly I am just soaking this book up. As a parent of four children, I have been blessed by what I've read. I've been encouraged by some of the things that we're doing right, and I am encouraged by the advice and information this book has provided me with. Most of all I am encouraged that it follow's and encourages God's Word so much. Of all the books I've read I will say this book is a must read parenting book for EVERY PARENT who wishes to encourage and help their children grow spiritually. They even have in small group material which I think is a fantastic idea!
