Well written historical gay mystery

I was (and am) so very fascinated by another book by this author that I decided to get more of her works. Well, what can I say? This mystery is just as well written as the first book that I read (Because you despise me), and I am sure many people will enjoy it and deservingly so. I also enjoyed it a lot up till the very end, I did not like the ending at all and would not be continuing with reading these series, I think. I however will definitely be on the look out for another books by this author, because while this story essentially dissapointed me, her writing and characters sure did not.

with reservations--spoilers; look out!

There are so many tremendous things I can say about this author. And I am looking forward to reading the next installment in this series. But where the first book the series, its mystery and danger, resolves in too symplistic a fashion, and too abruptly so that it felt pointless; this "Paragon..." left me perplexed. There were so many threads which I am left to simply figure out for myself or assume a solution. Eg., the mass suicide of fake vampires. So? (And have there ever been more suicides in one story?) The tattoos on the victims. Just a cult identifier? The death of the medium. I'm still not clear who killed her and I frankly don't feel like going back and reading-over to weed it out. I gather she and William's sister were complicit together in the death of the porn fiend. But as with so much else here, I'm assuming it because the author leaves me to do so. I can't say I'm crazy about that as a technique for mystery writing. I'll say however that I never need to read anything more heartbreaking than this ending. I don't know how it could have been done any better. Wow. I do hope there is something and someone good waiting for Devlin. You can't not like him.

The Paragon Of Animals

After reading the first book in the Inspector Devlin series, A Cold Blooded Scoundrel I eagerly awaited the second installment. I was not disappointed. With wonderfully snappy narrative and dialogue, plenty of references to the first book to make veteran readers smile and intrigue new followers of the Inspector and his exploits, The Paragon of Animals would be a fabulous read even without the final twist designed to take your breath away.
