the outcast

these have been some of the best westerns i have read. keep them coming!

Great Entertainment

I thoroughly enjoyed reading The Outcast. This great romp through the American West takes place during a time when it was still wild, dangerous, and sparsely populated with multiple tribes of Native Americans and Mountain Men. This installment involves Zach King and Shakespeare McNair fighting to save their women companions from certain death. The character of the Outcast is one of the most intriguing yet and makes for a worthy adversary. This is a short novel and comes across as having been written quickly. The author has a bad habit of changing character perspective from one paragraph to the next, which I find annoying. That bit of criticism being said, no one picks up a novel like this to admire the author's flowery style. You read a book like this for entertainment, and David Thompson is a first-class entertainer. Highly recommended even if this is your first time dipping into this series.

thank you for your prompt service in sending this book my husband really enjoyed it and it was in good shape

Outstanding!

The Wilderness Saga continues with the unfolding dramas in the King family. David Thompson has done it again when Zachary King and Shakespeare McNair are faced with losing their women folk to unfriendly hostiles. Both the tender and explosive nature of the frontiersmen are revealed when fighting for what they cherish most. This novel is full of edge of your seat action scenes! Zach King has been a firebrand in this series. Marriage has tempered his behavior, until now. Shakespeare on the other hand probably none more experienced on the frontier, faces the harshest test of his strength when caring for his wife who is on the brink of death. Well written and suspenseful entry!!

Outcast?

"He came out of the North, out of a land of virgin forests and icy winters, out of a land where lights danced in the night sky and the wendigo feasted on human flesh." David Thompson starts "Outcast" with an opening paragraph that catches your attention and keeps it right until the end. A pregnant Louisa is taken by a cannibal , the Outcast, and even Blue Water Women is injured. Zach, Nate, and Shakespear McNair in their efforts to protect their women from the wild, find themselves in a fight even they don't know what to expect. Even more interesting, is the addition of yet another `unknown' element in the Wilderness saga. I have been highly impressed with the Wilderness books. This time, Mr Thompson gives us a story based on the Tun-kua tribe mentioned in the King journal. Anthropologists make note of the Tonkihans who were canabalistic, and potentially mingled with other tribes. His absolute love of history and accuracy is outstanding. He is a master of the genre.
