After wading through endless guides recommending sight after straight sight, I found this thoughtfully written, informative and obviously painstakingly researched LGBT take on the city and snapped it up instantly. It was like having a likable gay friend on hand to let me in on the city's LGBT past and present, its secrets and its social side. I enthusiastically recommend this book for LGBT visitors to the city--and to residents who want to discover more of the gay goings on in their city than the obvious club listings available in any bar rag.
A "must-have" series for any LGBT traveler, whether on business or pleasure

"The Out Traveler" magazine presents a new travel guide series, created to be "the standard in gay travel" - compact, paperback guides written specifically with the interests of the LGBT community in mind. "The Out Traveler: New York City" (9781593500665, $15.95) gives a brief summary of the history of gay culture NYC as well as lists of well-known annual LGBT events and much more. Both guides are packed with information on nightlife, institutions with gay-friendly ratings, gay (and non-gay) activities, helpful websites, comprehensive maps, and just about everything that anyone who is LGBT could find useful. A "must-have" series for any LGBT traveler, whether on business or pleasure - though heterosexual travelers are sure to find them fascinating and informative as well.
Loved it and will go back to New York with this guide in hand

Finally a guide for the traveler (who happens to be gay) which provides just the perfect amount of culture, local insight, history, places to eat, sleep, shop and things to do to round out a wonderful day in NYC. This was like a perfect meal - not too much or little, not to heavy or light, perfect spice...hit the spot. Loved that it was organized by neighborhood. As I read it, I was reminded of great places I've been...and introduced to a good many to visit. So glad it was not the usual laundry list travel book. The history sections (and I am not a history buff) were a surprising, wonderfully written addition. Please do Chicago next!
