An Enjoyable Read!

The Other Side of the Game was totally enjoyable. Anita Doreen Diggs explores the lives of two half sisters, Asha and Saundra. After their mother passes away, one is raised in a home with a loving and adorning father, with the help of his girlfriend, and the other pretty much had to raise herself. Over the years the girls remain close, and as young women, they've come to depend on one another to 'keep the other in line'. Their views on life and how it should be lived is like night and day. One is naive and believes all is right with the world, while the other sees the world for what it really is, and will do whatever it takes to get her's. There is a totally unexpected twist in the story which will totally take you by surprise. Which really goes to show the clever and creative mind of the author. Although I would have preferred for the chapters to have been a little longer due to the fact I wanted more from each character, I like how the author expertly weaved each character together. I recommend this book highly! If you don't already have your copy, then you should scroll up to the top of this page and order your copy today. Valerie A. True to self...

Asha Mitchell and Saundra Patterson are half sisters, but very different from one another. Asha is high-maintenance and a definite gold-digger who bases the value of a man on the size of his financial status. She hops from man to man, seeking not only the financial perks, but the sexual ones as well. Saundra is an all-natural vegan and Daddy's girl on the verge of marrying her high-school sweetheart. Though the youngest, Saundra constantly lectures Asha on her lifestyle and how karma will eventually catch up with her. When her own world shatters, and she finds out distrubing information about her father, she completely shuts down. Saundra runs from the two most important men in her life and calls off the wedding. Asha has been bit in the butt by her actions and is reeling from a tragic experience with a man she used and dumped without much thought. These events bring the sisters together and they're both left to rethink their lives and the paths they have taken. In THE OTHER SIDE OF THE GAME, Anita Dorren Diggs presents a moving story about family and the conditions we sometimes unknowingly place on each other. Her writing style is sort of slow and steady, not that this is necessarily a bad thing, but for those who like fast-paced, from-the-beginning action, you'll want to stick with this one a little longer. While the book didn't immediately grab me, I was slowly drawn into the story as a result of Diggs' ability to create well-drawn characters and an unpredictable plot. The message in The OTHER SIDE OF THE GAME will be appreciated by those who read the book and understand the importance of being true to self as it is the only true path towards happiness. A GRITTY FAST-PACED READ!

Camille, a dancer from San Francisco, October 18, 2005, A GRITTY, FAST-PACED READ A fashion executive tries to land a rich man and deal with her own troubled sister in this smart, twenty-something novel by the super talented Anita Doreen Diggs. After scrambling out of the ghetto and into a fabulous lower Manhattan apartment, Asha Mitchell is determined to date only the rich and the gorgeous. She cannot understand her sister, Saundra, who dates the poor but well meaning Yero Brown but she stays out of their business. That is, until Saundra breaks up with Yero and comes to stay with her. Asha's adventures alternate with Saundra's trauma the lively dialogue and Asha's musings add up to a unique family melodrama. I hope the author follows through on her promise to write a sequel. A FUN READ

I read The other Side of The Game in one afternoon. This tale of two odd-couple type sisters trying to share the same apartment while dealing with family drama, was really great. Asha is a free spirit who is really upfront with everybody she meets...all she wants is money, the more the better. She is also a realist who understands that everything is not always black or white, good or bad. Sometimes things just are what they are. Saundra is a real nitwit who would have been a hippie if she'd been born a few decades ago. She is also very immature for a 22 year old and needs a lot of babying and hand holding. When Asha's lover commits suicide, she gets a lecture from Saundra on the workings of Karma. When Asha has a one night stand, Saundra primly lectures her on morality. It was a miracle that Asha did not throw Saundra into the streets before the end of this book. The men in their lives, Yero - Randall - Nick - Phil are all well drawn characters who are not stereotypical at all. I especially liked Phil, the tortured father. He tried so hard to be "respectable" and had to learn the hard way that everyone just has to be himself in order to find true happiness. This book is a must read!

ASHA AND HER SISTER

This novel by the prolific Anita Doreen Diggs is a fast paced story about bad parenting, poor choices, repressed desires and post 9/11 love. In particular, it is the story of Asha Mitchell, a headstrong gold digger who had to raise herself after the death of her mother. Throughout the book she is motivated by her unfulfilled need for security. After Saundra arrives on her doorstep, homeless and in emotional distress, Asha has a change of heart and begins to realize that true love (between Saundra and Yero) is sometimes as important as money.
