ABSOLUTELY Fantastic story, Beautifully written, a story that tugs at your heart in so many ways, it lingers in your mind long after your finished reading it !.From start to finish you will feel all of the emotions and struggles of the characters, their loves, their losses, and heartaches. The story centers around two women, one a young girl Noa, who became pregnant by a nazi soldier, and lost her baby, and a women Astrid, who is the main trapeze Artist in a travling circus. The two come together, as Noa joins the circus, with a baby she found warehoused in a freight train, ...hundreds of Jewish babies left in the cold box car, headed for the camps and to who knows what unfortunate end that will be waiting for them. She runs off with one of the babies, and cares for it as her own.The circus is her only salvation to hide the baby and herself from the Nazi's. Astrid is a tough woman, who suspects something of Noa and the baby, but doesn't let that warm her heart towards them. She is very rigid in her trapeze practice and performance, and tells Noa if she is to stay in the circus, and become part of HER act, she will train her properly, vigorously, with no room for failure or being soft. It is interesting to read, how over time, these two women forge an unbreakable friendship, and in the end it is a matter of life and death for BOTH of them !!!! You will absolutely love this story...and a most shocking ending ! Depending on how soft hearted you are...you may, ...rather you will need tissues!! I highly recommend this amazing story , I have Nothing but praise for this Author and look forward to reading many of her other books.

This was the first of Jenoff's books for me. I am usually a mystery reader. I did not want to stop reading. The story is intense and the writing is wonderful. I felt as if I was right there in the circus life with these two women. War is hell
