Not as bad as they say

Really helped my 12 year old. This book was so much better than a lot of the MTV's 'role models' are putting out. Honest, easy to understand language- it's written for kids about 12 years old remember? Bill O'Reilly uses his own life experiences to tell about bullies, the danger of drinking and smoking, being honest, getting good grades, cheating, lying, understanding why some kids are so mean and nasty. Sure, he has his own personal issues but who cares? If Madonna can write children's books after all she's done, so can Bill O'Reilly! And for the record, that woman who filed sexual harrassment charges against O'Reilly dropped the case because she lied! Imagine that. Definately helped my kid, she has a lot more self confidence and empathy towards understanding other children. And that's all that really matters isn't it? Incidentally, I missed the whole part about his sexual conquests? What I read described how he waited until his twenties to have sex - is there another version of this book out or is someone embellishing to trash the author? To all that have a personal issue re: O'Reilly - DON"T BUY THE BOOK! Simple as that, it's your right. But to anyone that honestly wants to help their child, go for it. Seriously, a lot of kids are nasty to each other- period. This book did help, and my daughter will never, ever take garbage from a bully again. Nor will she ever bully or judge another human being. I read the book with my child - opened up the lines of communication. With all the teen suicide, drinking, sex that is the reality of childhood today- kids need all the help they can get...

I thought this was an excellent book for children and adults. I purchased the book for my little sister. She enjoyed it, and it sparked a very thought probing conversation. A+++++

Smart Advice: Helpful for Parents and Students Alike

As a college professor with 3 children and 5 grandchildren, I thoroughly enjoyed this book and recommend it heartily to parents wanting what's best for their children. A lot of the advice in this book might be considered "common sense" but really, it isn't all that common at all, considering the way many parents raise their children today (ways which, in my humble opinion, do much harm to their children's potential for future success). If you have a child in high school or college, I highly recommend another book entitled "How to Ace Your Way Through College and Still Have a Life." It's the best college survival/success guide to come along in years, and like Mr. O'Reilly's book, shares smart, straightforward, sage advice. Dr. Henry R. Toof Cambridge, MA

Hey! This is a book for kids.

I haven't read all the reviews, but the first few that trash the book seem to be written by adults. As a reader of other books written by the author, I read the book and found it to offer good advise and insights for kids, and is written in a way that doesn't talk down to them. In fact, the book conveys respect and concern for kids. Two of my granddaughters asked me to buy them a copy of the book, saying their friends like it a lot. I'll give them my copy and ask them to write a review after they finish reading the book. Let's encourage the kids to have their say. After all, it was written for them. I'm sure the author would appreciate reading their reactions, good or bad.

Valuable tool

It does not matter if you agree with "Bill" or not, this book is a great way to start conversations with your youngster about life and share experience. I read the book before I gave it to my son to read and it helped me with opening up subjects that are tough to cover. Always remember; what is good for me may not be good for you but please do what is right, not what is easy.
