Relevant and Contemporary Women's Devotional

The One Year Women of the Bible is a great devotional for those of us who are busy (i.e...all women..right??) As a writer, Mom, the wife of a small business owner, student, small group coach, and ministry leader at my church I don't have a lot of time for devotionals that require a lot of homework, but I still want something that I know is theologically sound and still leaves me pondering after I've read it. This devotional works great with my life!

Great devotional and an inspiration to women in every walk of life

One of the best devotionals I have ever read. I have learned more about the more obscure women of the bible that I had pretty much passed over as I read about them. Now I know more about what they were feeling and the impact that they probably had on the people around them for and against the Lords plans for a particular time in history, etc. Love the way Dianne gets into the more practical feelings of these women and how we have some of those same feelings today. So proud of this piece of work for her and all the women that have let it touch their lives to minister healing and perhaps restoration to their lives. Paulette Howe

Day by Day

One day at a time is often how we must approach life. As women, our days fill quickly with all the to do lists. Dianne Matthews gives us a glimpse into our spiritual side and a chance to withdraw for a moment and reflect on what is important in life. Her writing here melds the old with the new in applying scriptural principles to our lives. It refreshes each day.

A 5-star message for women to slow down

Christian women often take time daily for devotions and time alone with the Lord just to talk to Him and to listen to His voice. However, sometimes they need a matrix or rubric to follow, a guideline of some sort to spur them on. This is the purpose served by the useful The One Year Women of the Bible. Occasionally, the Christian woman is too tired to pray or even to listen to God because nerves are frayed, and they may not even discern His voice, but Dianne Neal Matthews provides a book of devotions that both relaxes and energizes the body and mind to receive His best. Devotions are named such because their readers are devoted to a tradition, a philosophy, a good cause or higher entity, Jehovah God. Matthews's devotion to the Lord is clear and form, strong and gentle at once. It reminds one of the wind - a gentle breeze on a warm day that can become a torrent of power to wipe away wrong. She touches on every-day life challenges such as the battle of the sexes (started by Satan to destroy mankind); sibling rivalry (destructive but curable); Satan as the ultimate spin doctor of evil; women returning from exile (a global condition); the hopelessness of the unequally yoked (that can be overcome in the Lord); and Christ's ancestry (a prostitute and at least one African). Matthews reminds us eloquently that there is no one that God does not reach out to serve, to save, and to succor. The choice is an individual one, but great mercy and great comfort are reachable. From a teen girl, a new bride, or an elderly woman living alone-to a widow of the Iraqi War, this book will provide the loving arms of God arising from its pages to encircle them and say, "I am real and I am for you." Loving, truthful, well written to illuminate Bible women, and bold at once, this book is a treasure. Armchair Interviews says: This book could become the best thing to see each morning and bedtime.

Great concept!

Author Dianne Neal Matthews knows her stuff--both scripturally and practically--and she knows how to interweave the two to bring biblical accounts to life and make them relevant for today's modern woman. What a great way to journey through the Bible in a year and become acquainted with the women whose stories fill its pages, even while becoming more intimately acquainted with yourself and who you are as a woman today. Great job!
