Given a gift she didn't want

This book was exceptionally well written. It tells the story of a woman who thinks she has it all but once given the gift of clarity, sees what her life truly is. While not miserable, things are certainly not what she thought they were and through this realization, she is able to change her world.

Perfect summer read!

The One That I Want by Allison Winn Scotch asks the question: what would you do if you could see the future? Tilly Farmer thinks that she has it all: great family, great friends and a wonderful husband, with whom she's trying to have a baby. But when a visit to an old friend, now a psychic, leaves Tilly with the ability to see into the future, she begins to see things that she didn't exactly expect. Perhaps her life isn't so perfect after all? The One That I Want is a story about the choices we make, and the ones we don't necessarily want to make. It's about relationships and seeing things for what they really are. Winn Scotch's latest is funny, heartfelt, and a total page turner. All you could possibly want in a perfect summer read!

Great summer read

Allison Winn Scotch is a such a great women's writer. The One That I Want is a great summer read for women, particularly if you are in your late 20s, early 30s. Its about discourse just beneath the surface that you may not even be aware of. About changes in life, and moving on. It covers sisterhood, friendships and marriage all with a tiny bit of magic, that Allison is known for, thrown in. Time of My Life is still my favorite novel of Allison's, but only because I felt like Tilly Farmer could have been my younger sister, and not me. Although, saying that, I devoured the book in 3 days! It also totally reminded me of the Guidance Counselor from Glee! So if you like Glee, this book is right up your alley too! Read a Q & A with Allison here: [...]. Write faster Allison! PERFECT BEACH READ!

Tilly Farmer thought she had it all. Married to her high school sweetheart and trying for a baby, it seemed like life couldn't be any more perfect. But when a chance encounter with a childhood friend gives her the "gift" of being able to see into the future, her life comes crumbling apart when these visions start to come true. Soon her recovering alcoholic father starts drinking again and her marriage starts coming apart at the seems. Tilly's always been the one that takes care of everybody else, now she's the one who's in desperate need of some help. Scotch does a beautiful job of developing engaging characters that we care about. Case in point: I finished this book in twelve hours! Her writing flows easy and her dialogue rings true. Although at first glance you may think The One That I Want is just a breezy beach read, Scotch gives it depth by examining whether happiness is the life that you've nursed for decades or in the ability to look beyond it and take a leap of faith. Either way, you'll be rooting for Tilly to figure it out before it's too late. I LOVED this book! Don't you dare leave for the beach this summer without it!
